How long does it take to learn to dance?
To learn one “first dance” for your wedding reception usually takes between 5 and 15 lessons. Some people learn faster than others, and some have more time available to practice between lessons. Remember, this dance is something that your family, friends, and future in-laws will be watching, so you want to have the time to do it right.
Help! My wedding is coming up very soon. Can we still learn to dance in a short amount of time?
Don’t panic! If you’ve left dance lessons till the last minute, we can still help. Remember, we’re the wedding dance experts! We’ll work with the amount of time you have left to create a simple yet impressive first dance. Even a few lessons will help you to feel more relaxed and comfortable on the floor.
My dress has a long train. Can I still dance in it?
The style of dress does affect the dancing (you might not want to do a dip in a strapless gown!) but you can still do a breathtaking dance in any dress. Just let us know about your dress style and we’ll arrange your dance steps accordingly.
Does a first dance always have to be slow? My fiancé and I have a favorite song with a fast beat.
Not at all! Although the most popular dance styles for a first dance are usually suited to ballad-type songs, some couples prefer a more lively, swing, up-tempo nightclub or salsa beat. Bring your favorite song to your first dance lesson, and we’ll find the dance style that fits the song. It’s your day, so choose the music you like best!
I’m not really the musical type. Any suggestions for a good song for that first dance?
In fact, we have quite a few! When you come to Studio 665 for your first lesson, we can play the most popular wedding songs for you in several styles -- ballads, soul, country, and Latin. Take a peak at our popular songs list.
How do I include our parents in the reception dances?
Usually, the bride and her father begin the second dance, followed by the groom and his mother. This is often an emotional moment for all concerned, as parents “let go” of their now-married children. The right music can help to convey the special relationship between parent and child in a meaningful way. We can also help prepare you and your parents for this special moment.
I’ve never danced with my father before! What should I do?
Bring him with you to Studio 665! In fact, we’ll be happy to customize a package that includes your entire wedding party, so that everyone feels comfortable dancing at your reception. And we can do it at rates that won’t break your budget. In most cases, the cost of dance lessons will be less than the cost of your cake – and unlike the cake, the knowledge of dance will be yours for a lifetime.
Sounds great, but I know I’ll never be able to get everyone together for dance lessons. Any other ideas?
Invite us to the rehearsal dinner! We can send one or several of our professional instructors to your site and put together a crash course that will ease the wedding-day dance jitters for everyone. You’ll be surprised at how much fun everyone will have!
Any other hints?
When you come for your lessons at Studio 665, wear comfortable clothing that you can move in. Smooth-soled shoes are best to dance in; sneakers tend to stick on the floor. If your wedding shoes are pumps, try to bring shoes of the same heel height with you so you can get used to dancing in heels. If you’d like to practice in your actual wedding shoes, bring an old pair of socks with you. That way, you can cut out a hole for the shoe heel, slip the socks over the shoe, and protect your shoes for your big day. And above all, relax and have fun! We’ll take care of the rest.
